Movement creates Energy

Jan 20, 2021 | Movement

I, like most of you, have an office job and tend to sit in front of the screen way too much. I find it hard to get away from it and it always seems as though I don’t have enough time to get my work done… so I ignore that little voice telling me to get up and move, I even put a bright post-it on my computer with MOVE written on it to remind me.

When I do force myself off that chair and shoo away that annoying voice, telling me I don’t have time, and go for a brisk 10 minute walk, I come back refreshed, with a quicker mind and work more efficiently.

Moving your body, whether it’s walking, gardening, doing yoga, going up stairs or any other type of movement brings oxygen and thus, life force, back into your cells.

The effect is immediate, try it!

Your brain fog lifts, you are more alert and if you go out in the sun, you even get a dose of vitamin D, which will uplift your mood and strengthen your bones. Movement creates energy.

We are fortunate here in Italy to have amazing places to walk through whether it’s in the city, the countryside, the seaside or the mountains. I live and work in the outskirts of Rome, in the Castelli Romani area, famous for its Frascati wine.

When I manage to pull myself away from the computer, I take a 10 minute walk in the vineyards that surround my office and mindfully take in the fresh air, the varying shades of green of the budding vines and listen to the soft chirping of the birds.

Yes, just 10 minutes without thinking of work and to dos will bring you back to your desk refreshed.
